West Chester, PA - Biography
After a career in heavy construction and land development, Wilmington, Delaware native Steve Cole discovered a passion and talent for drawing and watercolor painting. Fascinated by the play of light and shadow, his portraits chronicle a moment in the lives of people he sees on the street, capturing an expression or gesture. Cole’s paintings of local architecture reveal his unique view of familiar places.
Although his mother, Clare, painted for many years, Cole has no formal art training. Utilizing his innate drawing skills and eye for composition, he studied and practiced to develop his style. Cole now paints every day in his home studio in West Chester, PA.
Cole is a Signature Member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and a member of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Baltimore, Annapolis and Chester County Art Societies. His paintings have been exhibited in numerous juried shows since 2015.
Cole’s awards include a First Place, Delaware Watercolor Society’s Nassau Vineyard Show in July, 2018 and a Second Place at the 2017 DWS show at the Briggs Museum in Dover, DE. He received the Newman and Saunders Award for the Philadelphia Water Color Society Annual Works On Paper Exhibit, 2017. [...]Read the rest of this bio on the
