Biography
Similar to many artists, Sharon's deep affection for art began at an early age.  In the remote rural elementary school located in Bluewater, New Mexico a fifth grade teacher introduced portrait drawing and watercolors to the class.  This was her first exposure to art.  The discovery that a pencil and paper could be used for creating a picture, not just schoolwork, was exciting.  Adding color was magical.  The Navajo and Apache children also attended the Bluewater school and fascinated Sharon.   Their features, clothes, and culture provided interesting subject matter to sketch and paint.  Her family moved to a New York City suburb.  An artist living next door met the budding artist of thirteen.  Opening the door to a new and exciting world, this neighbor introduced Sharon to art museums in New York City, art shows, provided books on art to read as well as encouraged experimenting with different mediums including oil paints.  A passion for art and painting was deeply imprinted during this time.

On completing high school Sharon's parents encouraged her pursuit of a formal education and career in art.  The eldest of four children, Sharon was concerned art might not provide income needed for secure independence and made the decision to obtain an education in nursing.  She graduated with a MSN from Columbia University in New York City.  Life was quite busy with family and career but her passion for art persisted.  Whenever time permitted and the opportunity arose paint brushes, paints and canvas or paper came out to record the moment.  Many times subject matter was close to home such as a deer in the backyard, a child sitting with a pet or a landscape as it changes through the seasons.

Retirement has allowed Sharon time for learning, growth and developing her art.  With her husband's encouragement, Sharon spends long [...]
