Morning Meditation by Susan Abell
Oil 12 x 12

Inspired by morning walks in early fall as the leaves have begun to change and there is a crispness in the air. The filtered light cast a warm glow on the landscape, contrasted with bluish-purple shadows. It is a wonderful time to be outside in nature.

Harmony by Susan Abell
Acrylic 9 x 12

A balanced tranquility or harmony seems to describe the inspiration for this work-the lush green grass and live oak trees of Jekyll Island, Georgia. It's really easy to feel peaceful in this coastal environment with its ancient shade trees.

Cascading Light by Susan Abell
Oil 14 x 11

The picturesque grounds of the historic village on Jekyll Island, Georgia inspired this oil on linen panel work. The late afternoon sunlight was especially compelling as it filtered through the Spanish moss draped live oak trees in the area that fronts the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Such a peaceful setting! This painting comes framed in solid wood, gold tone 16 x 19 frame and is ready for hanging. Feel free to contact artist with questions regarding this work.

Sunset Marsh by Susan Abell
Oil 12 x 12

Inspired by sunset views at the end of a coastal day. There's something about observing the fleeting light during the golden hour that may prompt reflective time, musing about the special moment. The beautiful sunsets on Georgia's Coast provided the illuminating inspiration. Oil on deep canvas with painting extended along all sides. Companion piece to Lingering Light & Marsh Musings.

Western Lake View by Susan Abell

Inspired by the captivating views in Western Lake within Grayton Beach State Park, Florida. The seemingly undisturbed beauty of a coastal dune lake, coupled with meandering beach trails offers the best of two worlds and a wonderful escape in nature. Painted in vivid watercolor shades to replicate this simplistic coastal setting. Protective sealant on canvas and ready to hang. Companion piece to Western Lake.

Biography

Visual art has always been an integral part of Susan’s life. Though she considers herself primarily a self-taught artist, she has pursued a passion for the visual arts throughout her lifetime. Since formally retiring from a career as an elementary educator, this weekend hobby has become a full time pursuit.
Nature provides a limitless bounty of subject matter.  For Susan, painting is an ever changing and evolving learning experience, much like nature. Capturing what is observed into a painting is a constant pursuit for her as nature can often surprise us in the way in which the same scene can look totally different on a given day. As a result, each artwork reflects experiences in her native Georgia as the beauty of nature in its varied forms provides limitless inspiration. She is particularly fascinated with the variation in light and color found in nature, compelling her to paint impressionist landscapes. In addition, experimenting with a variety of media and techniques is one of the ways she endeavors to create paintings that will resonate with viewers.

Artist StatementAs my dad, a professional photographer, used to tell me as a young child, “You see more.” While it has taken many years to fully grasp his meaning, I now endeavor to offer my vision to you. Painting is my way of connecting to my surroundings in a spiritual sense, while conveying that visual impression to others. As a result, I seek to connect with viewers by drawing them into a particular setting. Each artwork reflects an experience and recalls a story as the beauty of nature in its varied forms provides limitless opportunity for inspiration. I am most fascinated with the variation in light and color found in the natural world, and as a result, as I choose to paint landscapes, botanical art, and animals. All paintings begin as [...]
