Daybreak by Susan Abell
Oil 14 x 11

The dawn of new day with all its promise inspired this artwork. The sky was hazy with considerable cloud cover on this particular morning until the sunlight suddenly and dramatically pierced those gloomy clouds. The perfect inspiration to get the day off to a great start. Inspired by coastal Georgia morning views. Oil on canvas panel.

Undaunted by Susan Abell
Oil 12 x 9

As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way. Late fall pond impressions inspired this work in oil on linen panel. The changing landscape and capturing the variance in light is paramount to me.

More Simple Joys by Susan Abell
Oil 7 x 5

Do few things but do them well, simple joys are holy. Francis of Assisi It is indeed a joy to observe the filtered light of late autumn. This small work reflects a pond in my neighborhood that offers much daily inspiration with each seasonal change. Captured here with palette knife on a linen panel. Companion piece to 'Simple Joys'.

Biography
Visual art has always been an integral part of Susan’s life. Though she considers herself primarily a self-taught artist, she has pursued a passion for the visual arts throughout her lifetime. Since formally retiring from a career as an elementary educator, this weekend hobby has become a full time pursuit.
Nature provides a limitless bounty of subject matter.  For Susan, painting is an ever changing and evolving learning experience, much like nature. Capturing what is observed into a painting is a constant pursuit for her as nature can often surprise us in the way in which the same scene can look totally different on a given day. As a result, each artwork reflects experiences in her native Georgia as the beauty of nature in its varied forms provides limitless inspiration. She is particularly fascinated with the variation in light and color found in nature, compelling her to paint impressionist landscapes. In addition, experimenting with a variety of media and techniques is one of the ways she endeavors to create paintings that will resonate with viewers.

Artist StatementAs my dad, a professional photographer, used to tell me as a young child, “You see more.” While it has taken many years to fully grasp his meaning, I now endeavor to offer my vision to you. Painting is my way of connecting to my surroundings in a spiritual sense, while conveying that visual impression to others. As a result, I seek to connect with viewers by drawing them into a particular setting. Each artwork reflects an experience and recalls a story as the beauty of nature in its varied forms provides limitless opportunity for inspiration. I am most fascinated with the variation in light and color found in the natural world, and as a result, as I choose to paint landscapes, botanical art, and animals. All paintings begin [...]
