Time had passed since I had drawn and painted. Then several years ago I was influenced by my family and a long-time artist friend to return to art. During the time that I was not painting I never lost my appreciation for art. Now, since I have re-engaged in painting and drawing, I remember how enjoyable it can be.
I work with several mediums, however watercolor has always been my favorite painting medium since I was thirteen years old in a summer art class. I enjoy the translucence of the paint that allows the light to reflect off of the white paper underneath the paint. Watercolor does not always do what the artist wants it to do, it has a mind of its own, which adds to the surprise and enjoyment.
I have an interest in painting landscapes in the outdoors, called "en plein air" painting. Painting in nature brings more authenticity to the painting. I can feel the surroundings, breathe the air and capture the scene more realistically. It is fortunate that we live in Denver, Colorado USA adjacent to the Rocky Mountains to the West and the Plains to the East. There is so much beauty in this region.
My ideas for paintings come from what interests me--and I hope what may interest you. The ideas come from my early life on a Kansas farm, camping and hiking in the Rocky Mountains, observing nature, and traveling on business trips to Europe.
My goal is to paint uplifting paintings that portray traditional, positive influences of nature, family, friends, spirituality, and honesty.
