Biography
'Painting for me is a form of self-discovery, a way to better understand those things that catch my eye and call out to me to be painted.'

Mark Brockman is a self educated artist working primarily in Pastel and Watercolor, as well as various drawing media. His subject is predominantly the landscape, though figurative work has been popping up more often.

'I prefer to paint those things and places I know well. It's not that I don't like to see new places, to travel, it's just that in the familiar I can see so much more potential then in the new.'

'The figures and faces, most often but not exclusively are connected to music in some way reflecting my own interest in music. Though I have toyed with figurative work in the past it seems more and more important to me as time passes.'

Brockman has been painting for over forty years having participated in numerous shows from One-Man exhibitions to Juried, Invitational and group shows, having won a number of awards. His work hangs in many private and corporate collections. He has taught others to paint through classes, workshops and critiques, but now devotes all his artistic time to painting or playing music.

'My life experiences influence what and how I paint a subject and it is the viewers life experiences that influence how they view a work of art. I have an idea, an emotion that I try to express in an individual work, it is up to the viewer to bring their own emotions into play when viewing a work of art. Viewing art is not a spectator activity, it requires participation from all parties.'
