Wild and Natural by Carol Hopper
Oil 9 x 12

One of my favorite places in the USA is Clark Gardens in Texas. Here, I feel peace, in touch with nature, and a spiritual connection. What I love most about the gardens are those areas a bit unmanicured. This painting captures the lively colors of the fall garden and its wild-child nature. The painting is framed in an ornate handmade gold leaf frame, something I special ordered from Arizona. Yes, it is a very upscale frame...but some paintings deserve only the best one can buy.

The Secret Garden by Carol Hopper
Oil 6 x 6

Recently, for the first time, I visited Clark Gardens outside Weatherford, TX. I fell in love with all 67 acres of garden. It rained constantly but lightly the entire time I was in the garden but the benefit of this was that I was entirely alone. I felt as though I was in an "other worldly" place. I walked and walked, returning and criss crossing paths on which I had already been. All of the garden was my favorite...including the many statues, ponds, trees, and birds that were hiding. This little piece is unframed at the moment.

Walking the Baby by Carol Hopper
Oil 10 x 10

Walking the Baby is another painting depicting grandchildren of a friend. This painting, once dried will be in the grandmother's collection of paintings. Painting children brings me great joy. Children bring great joy. I look to them to care for our future, yours and mine. I wonder if Sorolla would like my painting. I can only hope.

Child's Delight by Carol Hopper
Oil 8 x 6

Painting children at play brings me great joy. Children know joy. They know delight. They know love. They are the ones that will be taking on the hard work of loving planet Earth and its people back to health and sanity. This is my second painting of Ellie, granddaughter of a dear friend who lives in Texas. The painting is framed beautifully and ready for a new home.

Forever Companions by Carol Hopper
Oil 6 x 8

Recently I took a workshop outside of Atlanta with Nancy Francke. She is very good, lots of fun, someone I recommend. I painted this in class as did my fellow classmates. After returning home I let the painting rest as I knew I wanted to make it mine, not something done in class. It seems when I paint people or clothing, I often abstract the background, using a knife to push and pull paint. This is just a little painting, but beautifully framed. If you have a dog or love dogs and want their essence to live with you, I recommend this painting for you. It will always touch your heart. If you have a photo of your own dog and want me to paint it, you can contact me on my website.

Pear V has a unique color scheme. I especially love it for the challenge it offered to me as this color scheme is not my usual. My pear paintings are joyful! Frame has a very clean look.

Wild in Violet by Carol Hopper
Oil 8 x 8

I paint many different subjects but lavender flowers and fields are just about at the top, if not at the top. Just this weekend I was in a lavender field here in Albuquerque. The bees were prolific and busy. In the lavender shop, I purchased a lavender salve for knees that had seen too much floor time. No, I wasn't praying. I hope you love this painting as much as I do. It is framed so beautifully...RICH! Free shipping within the USA.

Biography
CAROL HOPPER

BIOGRAPHY

Carol grew up in Minnesota where, as a child, she fell in love with the beauty of flowers, the landscape and all four seasons. Her creative mother loved art, music and flowers which she grew in a large fenced-in flower garden, safe from rabbits but not Minnesota gophers.  Carol's first paintings were "paint by number", which quite amazingly taught her to understand how to render lights and shadows--dimension.  As a very young child she was intrigued by the art on Currier and Ives Christmas cards and illustrations in children's books.  Those illustrations added to story telling making the art even more fascinating to her.  Unfortunately Carol's mother died just as Carol turned 10 and she lost her inspiration and mentor.  School became a place of joy and lucky for her, Carol's home economics teacher taught her Interior Design. Carol still remembers her design board as it was truly a success, an A+.  As in art, interior design requires a knowledge of composition, color, balance, value and accents.

Carol has undergraduate and graduate studies in teaching, interior design and fine art. To make a living in the sixties, about the only careers open to women were teaching, nursing, or being a secretary.  Carol chose teaching though she tinkered with oil painting as early as 1968. But being both a teacher and a young mother, painting had to wait until 1998 when Carol was able to pursue her art career full-time. Most of her art study has been with painters of Impressionism including Lois Griffel at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, Massachusetts as well as with artists James Richards, James Kroner, Ned Mueller, Eric Michaels, Ken Auster, Carolyn Anderson and others.  She has spent years studying and understanding the art of painting and its many element, believing in continual study through [...]
