“Like Nietzsche, I feel that truly beautiful art is a statement of gratitude
for the privilege of experiencing what has been portrayed.” “Whether painting a landscape that moves me,
the wondrous nuances of form and face in portraiture,
or the miraculous organic shapes and glowing colors of a still life,
I am making a statement of gratitude to have experienced a brush with these natural wonders."
Born in Austin, Texas, Rebecca Neef has been sketching and painting since childhood.
After specializing in canine and equine portraiture for 15 years, with clients across the USA, Europe and Canada,
she took a break from commissioned work for a few years, undertaking a period of intensive study,
first of draughtsmanship, concentrating on the human form, drawing and painting from the live model
under the tutelage of master draughtsmen David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Gregg Kreutz, and Robert Johnson.
In further study with these artists, she then undertook a mission of several years,
to master the technique of Chiaorscuro.
Ever in pursuit of excellence, she fortified her command of the pastel medium with studies under
master-pastelists Richard McKinley, Denise LaRue Mahlke, and Colleen Howe.
She lists among her greatest living influences the artists David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw,
and credits these living masters for changing the way she sees the world and portrays it.
Rebecca Neef is a member of Oil Painters of America, and the Monthaven Art Society.
She lives in the countryside near Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and their numerous dogs.
