Patricia Matranga

Patricia Matranga, born in 1956, and raised in the Midwest, always had an appreciation of nature. She grew up playing in the fields, and forests of a rural countryside. In the late 70's she moved to Southern California where she trained and worked in the computer industry as a hardware product specialist for many years. Patricia retired from the computer industry in 1991 to stay home and care for her two young sons and take over the computer side of her husband's business. During this time she also began experimenting and exploring her creative side. She has always been creative, and has explored various types of arts and crafts over the years before immersing herself in painting. In 2013, Patricia began painting full time. Love of nature, everyday life and her surroundings are her inspiration. Patricia uses sketches and studies painted on location, still life's or reference photographs from either her own travels or public domain sources, to begin her studio paintings. Some of her work is done 'Alla Prima', all in one session, while others may take weeks to complete. Patricia has worked in a variety of mediums but prefers oils as her chosen medium.A mostly self taught artist, she is influenced by masters like Joaquin Sorrolla, William Wendt, and John Singer Sargent as well as current prominent artists. Participating in many classes and workshops from well known artists as well as delving into books, videos and Internet for insight and exposure to different approaches and techniques. Driven by an intense passion, she paints constantly in studio and outdoors. Her style, at times realistic, at times impressionistic, is an evolving body of work. She has participated in group exhibitions in galleries in Topanga Canyon, Pasadena, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Balboa-Newport Beach and Laguna with her first solo show in 2016., and Gallery representation in 2017.
