Janet Alsup

Ohio Artist specializing in pet oil portraits (especially dogs).

As a Senior in high school, I painted for the first time and became fascinated by it. I discovered Norman Rockwell around the same time, and was enamored. In fact, so enamored, I called a number on the back of a book about him and asked to speak to him. I wanted to know how to study and where to go to learn to paint. Someone did answer the phone only to inform me that Mr. Rockwell had passed away some time ago. I received a BA in Design and worked as a graphic artist, but didn't learn to paint. As family and children took more time, I remember thinking; "If I don't learn to paint now, I'll regret it".

I took portrait oil painting classes at Columbus College of Art & Design and studied with Ernie Viveiros, the best art teacher I've ever had. Since 2012, I've been a painting fool specializing in Pet Portraits! I invite you to visit my ETSY Shop which is becoming a dog-lover's paradise or contact me for your pet portrait.

You'll find me at Juried Art Festivals and Pet Shows across Ohio.
